Here you can view some of my best photos of Saint Thomas church in Slovenia. In the alpine region of Slovenia, it’s hard to look at any mountain view without seeing a church somewhere in the scene, either in the foreground or somewhere on the slopes of a mountainside.

Saint Thomas church is probably one of the most famous of these views, and almost considered an iconic view among photographers. From this very special viewpoint above the Selska Valley, this little church sits on a green hill in the foreground backed by the beauty of the Kamnik Alps.

It’s best photographed in the morning from late autumn to early spring when the sun rises off to the side and beautiful soft morning light hits the mountaintops and the church first, which then slowly spreads the illuminate the hill on which it sits. In summer the sun rises from behind, and at the summer solstice rises over the mountains. Another special moment here is once a year when the full moon also rises behind the mountains at sunset. It’s actually the only time I’ve photographed this view at sunset.
