A four day tour of Ireland's spiritual heart and ancient capital

Join me, Ian Middleton, for a weekend photography holiday to discover the Mysterious World of Ancient Ireland. I am the co-author of the book, Mysterious World: Ireland, which is an incredibly detailed history book/travel guide to Ireland's most sacred places, her legends, folklore and mythology. The book contains a wealth of information on the ancient sites you can still visit today.

Day 1

Arrival, Evening at Hill of Slane

After checking in at the Slane Farm Hostel, we'll head out to the Hill of Slane, where you will visit the church and listen to the story of Saint Patrick's meeting with the High King. Then it's off to a local pub for some good Irish craic (fun)

Day 2

Hill of Tara, Newgrange, the Tain Trail and Magic Hill

This morning we'll head out before dawn to the Hill of Tara for a dawn and sunrise photoshoot. This is the spiritual heart of Ireland, the ancient capital and seat of the high kings, the Hill of Tara. Then it's off to Ireland's biggest and most fascinating neolithic complex, Newgrange. Here's you'll visit some huge burial mounds and learn about the fairies who occupy it.

In the afternoon it's off to County Louth, home of one of Ireland's most famous and greatest giants and warriors, Cúchulainn. You will also take a trip out to the Road where things go Backwards (aka Magic Hill) and visit the pub the leprechaun escaped from!

Day 3

Kells, Loughcrew, Stone of the Divisions, Westmeath

Starting with an early morning photoshoot at the Hill of Slane or some other nearby location, then back for a warm breakfast. Today we'll visit Kells, origin of the fabulous Book of Kells, then on to the Hill of Uisneach in County Westmeath, second in importance to the Hill of Tara. The High King met here with his provincial kings at the Stone of the Divisions, where also a very important Queen is said to be buried.

Day 4

Early morning out to Fore Valley, Lough Derravagh

Today we'll head back out to Westmeath and visit Lough Derravagh; location for the famous legend, the Children of Lir, and then learn about the seven wonders of the Fore Valley.
